Serena Tolbert was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and raised in Lithonia, Georgia. She began her dance training at the age of five, at Atlanta Ballet. She took part in the Atlanta Ballet’s dance ensemble as well as their ballet version of ‘The Nutcracker at the Fox Theater. Serena also was a part of her middle and high school dance ensemble and was nominated to take part in the Georgia Governors Honors Program for Dance. For three summers she also got an opportunity to take part in dance summer intensives once at The University of South Carolina and twice at The University of North Carolina Schools of the Arts. She graduated from Jacksonville University in the Spring of May 2022 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Dance (Ballet, Hip-hop, Street Jazz, Jazz, Modern, Contemporary, Improvisation). She was able to choreograph multiple dances included in the University’s Spring and Fall Dance Concerts. She has taught dance at the Atlanta Dance Exchange in Norcross, Georgia. She currently teaches at Dynamic Dance in Jonesboro, Georgia, and at the Barack and Michelle Obama Academy as a dance teacher. She hopes to succeed as a traveling choreographer and is interested in being a commercial dancer in the future. Serena believes that dance is an art form that includes self-expression and individuality for all that take part and hopes to encourage everyone to believe that they can achieve their dancing dream.
